TILE CITY DIY
MEASURING UP.

FLOOR TILES
It is quite simple to measure a room for tiles.

Square floor area – simply multiply the width of the room by the length.

For example 4m x 3m = 12m2
Then allow 5% to 10% over and above (depends on the size of tile) for wastage and for cutting.

Odd shaped rooms – divide the area into smaller squares and apply the same formula and add them together.

Triangular areas – multiply the width x length, then divided by 2.

If unsure, draw a rough layout of the rooms to be tiled, with the measurements or bring your house plans to a TILE CITY store and let us work it out for you.

WALL TILES
These use the same principle as floor tiles, only you need to multiply the height by the width of the wall to be tiled.

Varied heights – if not tiling all the walls to the same height in a wet area (bathroom, toilet, laundry), remember that you will need to allow for a skirting tile.

Again, we will be happy to work it out from your house plans or your drawings.

It is best to have at least one box of each of your tiles left over – these will be invaluable if you ever need to replace a tile.
